If you find yourself getting caught up in a flurry of outrage, fear or any other strong yet unhelpful emotion here’s a good way to get things back into perspective.
Ask yourself:
Will this matter tomorrow?
Will this matter next week?
Will this matter next month?
Will this matter in 3 months?
Will this matter next year?
Be objective, honest and above all rational when you think about your answers. How big a deal is it for you? Really? What would an impartial observer say?
The sooner it stops mattering the less important it is so just sort it out, let it go or stop poking at it.
Don’t let it distract you from the things that really matter. What might you miss or overlook while you’re caught up in a maelstrom of nothing? What opportunities might pass you by while you’re fuming or feuding?
Remember, the more energy you waste on trivialities the less you have to invest in the things that will make you happier and more successful.
