So it’s New year’s resolution time and if, like me, you have a recurring resolution to do more or less of something (I’m on a 25 year streak with one of mine) here’s something that might help.
8 days in to 2025 I think I might have nailed it this time by combining carrot and massive stick.
On January 1 I opened a savings account.
For each day I’m successful in sticking to my resolution I’ll put £10 into that savings account. So if I stick to my resolution 20 times in a month, I’ll have put £200 in by the end. At the end of the year I’ll treat myself to something really nice. So far, so positive. Yay!
Here’s the clincher. For each day I don’t stick to my resolution I’ll donate £15 to a political party I loathe. And I mean loathe. Even thinking about them makes me want to vomit.
8 days in my savings account has £80 in it and I am chuffed!
I must have read this somewhere but I can’t remember where – I think it sounds like an Atomic Habits type of idea.
If you’re starting to struggle with your goals and resolutions so far book yourself in for a free coaching session here.
I don’t do hard sell or try and persuade you to do something, it’s just a good opportunity to work through whatever’s going on for you. See you soon!
