Pronounced al-kim-i-a, alquimia is Spanish for Alchemy.
For centuries, alchemy was a science and philosophy whose practitioners looked for solutions to some of the great problems in life: a cure for all disease, immortality and, perhaps more famously, turning base metals into gold. Nowadays we think of it as being slightly bonkers, but the alchemists (whose number included Sir Isaac Newton) laid the foundations for chemistry and medicine.
A more modern definition of alchemy is that it is the power or process of turning something ordinary into something special; it hints at mystery and power. So it’s all about transformation, enabling change. And change is important. As Darwin showed in “The Origin of Species” ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change’.
We have learnt that successful transformation lies in finding the right combination of vision, skill and confidence, with a good dash of not giving a damn what other people think. We believe that a lack of confidence or self-belief is at the heart of most problems. So, we love to focus on helping our clients see what we see: the strong, capable, talented, wonderful person sitting in front of us whose demons and critical inner voices are making their lives a misery.
