As professionals, we all know that intelligence (IQ) and technical potential (TQ) are important and we work hard to develop our skills, experience and intelligence so that we’re great at our jobs.
But few us take the time to develop our emotional intelligence (EQ). That’s a shame because research has shown over and over that the best, most successful business owners and leaders have great EQ.

This can be summarised in the formula (IQ+TQ) x EQ = human potential (source Martyn Newman). EQ is what makes the difference.
Some people are naturally blessed with it, many, many of us have to work at developing our emotional intelligence.
EQ is a skill that can be learnt and I help my clients understand the 10 key leadership competencies and actively develop their skill and expertise in each competency. The result is that they become better leaders and their teams are more efficient and effective.
The 10 key leadership competencies are: self-knowledge, self-confidence, self-reliance, self-actualization, straightforwardness, relationship skills, empathy, self-control, adaptability and optimism.
