My name is Jackie Fitzgerald and for the past few years I’ve been working as an executive and business coach in London, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. I have come to realise that it is a combination of:
- lack of belief in our own abilities and
- caring too much what other people think
that tends to stop us understanding what we’re really worth and achieving all that we’re capable of.
To be honest, it drives me mad when successful, talented, intelligent, experienced, kind and wonderful people sit in front of me and tell me that they’re not confident and don’t deserve success. I want to help them get over themselves and see what I can see. So, in 2018 I created the Confidence Transformation Methodology, a belief-changing approach that transforms your confidence levels by creating new thought and behaviour patterns.
The Confidence Transformation Methodology, while tailored specifically for each individual client and their unique set of challenges, uses tried, tested and proven tools and techniques to quickly and effectively help clients set themselves free of self-doubt and fear. The Confidence Transformation Methodology is at the heart of my Conquer Your Confidence in 90 Days programme. Yes, in just 3 months you can feel consistently confident, value your own experience and talents and start to achieve all that you know you’re capable of.
You may be asking what gives me the right to say I can do that. Fair question, so here I am, in my own words:
I was the first person in my family to go to university and studied French and Spanish at King’s College London, where I spent the first 2 years feeling lost, terrified and out of my depth. I managed to sort myself out and graduated with a 2:1.
At that point I completely changed direction and started training to be an accountant, passing my CIMA exams first time in 1989. Although I felt like a fraud and doubted my abilities every single day, I worked my way through all of the usual junior finance roles and ended up as Finance Director of a very small bit of a plc in my early 30s.
Despite my persistent lack of confidence and belief in my abilities, both of which plagued me and cost me several promotions and jobs, it had all gone so well that I ended up as Managing Director of a company that provided infrastructure to major phone companies. That ended very badly from my point of view and led to a year of trauma, doubt and even more fear which in turn led to a really bad decision that cost me a great deal of money and 2 years of complete, but different, misery.
Those 3 years were very, very difficult for me and I questioned everything about myself. But I also learnt so much about myself, especially how to manage my confidence and bounce back when I felt that life, and some pretty unpleasant people, were giving me a kicking. That knowledge and experience feeds directly into my coaching practice and I draw on those experiences and the things I learned every day.
I know a lot about self-confidence and the related subjects of resilience, self-esteem, self-compassion and motivation. I help my clients understand what their true selves need, ditch the unhelpful beliefs and attitudes they’ve acquired over time, create a kitbag of tools and techniques that will allow them to become more confident, fulfilled and successful. I don’t do pointless, fluffy coaching, I do my best to help my clients get the results they want, as quickly as they can manage.
Confidence is my thing, but I am also fascinated by all aspects of coaching and have a MA in Coaching and Mentoring Practice from Oxford Brookes University where my dissertation topic was ‘An exploration of male self-confidence in the coaching context’. You can view the presentation I gave to the 2015 Coaching and Mentoring Research Conference.
In October 2017 I also became a registered BrainWorking Recursive Therapy practitioner (Level 1, General Psychopathology) and a Practitioner Member of the British BrainWorking Reseach Society. I will be completing my Level 2 and BWRT Coaching training in the spring. BWRT is a fantastic technique that can dissolve many confidence-related problems almost instantly and I often use it in my coaching practice. You can find out more about BWRT here and here.
I am married, live in Oxfordshire and love seeing my friends and family, cinema, live music and Liverpool FC.
So that’s me!
